Unfortunately, the economy is working exactly as designed.

The defining challenges of our time are not isolated failures. They are the predictable outcomes of an economy designed around extraction. We have become remarkably good at repairing the environmental and social consequences of that design. Much less attention has been given to redesigning the economy itself.

Economy, at its root, is how a community manages its resources to secure its own prosperity. It is older than markets. Older than money. Older than nations. We understand economy as a social practice: people organizing resources, relationships, and knowledge to sustain life together. What has been designed can be redesigned.

For us, Reclaiming Humanity in the Economy is not a moral appeal or a romantic worldview. It is a design principle. Humanity is the purpose. Regeneration is the practice.

That changes where we begin.

We begin inside communities. Every economy starts with people. Long before investment, policy, or infrastructure, communities organize, exchange, adapt, and create value. The stronger the social capital, the greater a community's capacity to shape its own economic future.

That is why we work in Africa. Not because Africa needs saving. Africa holds what much of the Western world has lost: dense community networks and adaptive informal economies. They provide the conditions in which community economy development can be observed, strengthened, and continuously refined. The logic travels further.

Practically, this means treating the community economy (not the individual entrepreneur or business) as the unit of development. We strengthen Economic Intelligence, Economic Coordination, and Economic Continuity to build Community Economic Capability: the ability of a community economy to generate knowledge, coordinate activity, retain capability, and adapt over time.

CO-LAB for Future Economics is a nonprofit research and do space. Our research does not precede our work. It emerges from it. We co-design, build, observe, revise, and we stay through the entire process.

We are not neutral.

We believe the economy can be redesigned.

We are here to do it.
